Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday announced that an Agniveer Cell will be set up to help Agniveers benefit from state government schemes after completing their service. He said Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country to establish such a unit. Addressing the Yuva Agniveer Samvad organised by the Youth Foundation in Dehradun, Dhami also announced special grants for e servicemen and Agniveers to set up homestays under the Tourism Department. He added that a 10 per cent horizontal reservation has been provided for those completing their service in state government sectors, including the police, forest department and disaster management. He said provisions have also been made for age-limit relaxation and priority in recruitment so that every youth serving in the Army has a dignified future. He said becoming an Agniveer is "not merely about securing a job but a supreme opportunity for national service", and added that the four years spent in the Army would become a major asset for the rest of their lives.
Dhami also said he is the son of a soldier and feels a sense of kinship when he is among soldiers. Referring to recruitment reforms, the chief minister said the state brought in a strict anti-cheating law after taking a serious view of various recruitment scams. He said the law includes provisions for punishment of up to life imprisonment, and added that more than 100 members of the "cheating mafia" in the state have been sent to jail. According to him, this has brought complete transparency to recruitment in Uttarakhand and helped more than 34,000 eligible youths get government jobs over the past five years.
The announcements made by Dhami covered post-service support for Agniveers, training and reservation in state jobs, and measures aimed at self-employment, while also linking these steps to the state government's wider efforts to make recruitment transparent. Ends
