Tremors were also felt in parts of Central America. According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles). The tremors were felt around 14:48 (UTC) (8.18 pm IST). Residents felt intense tremors in the Mexican states of Chiapas and Oaxaca as well as in Guatemala and El Salvador. The earthquake’s epicenter was located 48 kilometers southwest of Aquiles Serdán, a town in the Mexican coastal state of Chiapas, according to the USGS.
