Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor was rescued after being trapped inside a lift at a hotel near PMG in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. He had arrived at the hotel to attend an event and was heading to the sixth floor when the lift malfunctioned.
Besides the MP and his personal staff, three other people were also stranded in the lift, official sources said. The hotel staff initially attempted to open the lift, but were unsuccessful. The Kerala Fire and Rescue Services were then called to the scene.
Using a hydraulic spreader, the firefighters managed to open the lift and safely rescue the MP and other passengers who were trapped for nearly 30 minutes. After being rescued, Dr. Tharoor thanked the Fire and Rescue Services personnel for their prompt response.
“Everyone is okay. The hotel staff came first, but they could not do anything. Then they decided to call the fire force. The fire force arrived within five minutes of being called, and I sincerely thank them,” he said.
