The State government has approved and ordered to fill 15,000 teachers’ posts in government primary and high schools in the State. Out of this, 6,967 posts have been reserved for Kalyana Karnataka cadre and 8,033 posts for non-Kalyana Karnataka cadre. As many as 8,500 are Graduate Primary Teachers (GPT) posts, 4,500 Assistant Master (AM) posts, 900 Primary School Teacher (PST) posts, 600 Physical Education Teacher (PET) posts and 500 posts are of Computer Science teachers.
The government has decided to fill these posts in the year 2026-27. Language proficiency However, the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has raised objections to the government decision of mandating English language proficiency tests during the recruitment. In his letter to Chief Minister, Purushottama Bilimale, chairman, KDA, has demanded that the English language proficiency test in the ongoing recruitment process of 15,000 teachers by the School Education Department be dropped.
“The decision to drop recruitment for Kannada teachers and making English language proficiency test compulsory for recruitment of teachers of various subjects is a blow to Kannada language
and the State’s language policy,” he argued. Bilimale urged that the government must provide opportunities for Kannada teacher posts in recruitment and withdraw the English language proficiency test.
