HYDERABAD The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has accused the Congress government of discriminating against the farming community by denying water available in the Godavari river at Medigadda to serve its political interests and out of vengeance against BRS, though El Nino conditions were affecting the kharif cultivation badly. Farmers were forced to buy water supplied through tankers to protect their paddy nurseries, while other major crops such as cotton were either wilting or withering in different parts - as 30 out of 33 district had recorded deficient to large deficient rainfall so far this season, former minister V.
Srinivas Goud said here on Friday, addressing a press conference. Neighbouring States such as Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were making use of available water in the Krishna and Godavari rivers to protect
the interests of farmers, while the Telangana Government was politicising the farmers’ woes in the name of showing BRS in poor light. He reiterated the BRS view that water could be lifted back
from Kannepalli pump house without closing the gates of Medigadda barrage and diverted to Mid Manair, Lower Manair, Mallannasagar, Kondapochammasagar, Sriramsagar, Nizamsagar and other projects to give water for irrigation to farmers in the ayacut.
