In an exclusive interview with India Today, BJP MLA from Dum Dum North, Sourav Sikdar, discussed the ongoing controversy surrounding the relocation of a mosque situated on the airport runway in his constituency. Sikdar highlighted the security threats posed by the mosque's location and criticized the previous administration, stating, 'In Mamata Banerjee's regime, making a false Aadhaar card almost was a small-scale industry.' He emphasized that the current double-engine government, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in West Bengal, is committed to the airport's expansion.
Addressing the opposition from Jamaat-e-Ulema Hind Bengal chief Siddiqullah Chowdhury, Sikdar asserted, 'In India, only rule of India government will be applied.' He revealed that despite offers to build a larger mosque elsewhere, Chowdhury demanded permission from various Muslim bodies. Sikdar also disclosed that a procession was organized in Dhaka demanding his death penalty, but he urged citizens not to be provoked and to follow the law of the Indian state.
