KPCC spokesperson H.A. Venkatesh has condemned Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok’s criticism of the State government’s proposed Bharat Jodo Youth Clubs. In a statement issued here, Mr. Venkatesh said the Congress government’s initiative was aimed at the holistic development of youth by nurturing leadership and organisational skills.
He alleged that the BJP was uncomfortable with the initiative as it sought to empower young people. He said the Bharat Jodo Youth Clubs were intended to promote social harmony, equality, and participation among people irrespective of caste or religion.
The clubs would also encourage healthy lifestyles, sports, leadership development, and organisational abilities among the youth. Taking exception to Mr. Ashok’s reported description of the clubs as “ganji kendras” (gruel centres), Mr. Venkatesh said the remarks reflected the BJP’s apprehension that constructive youth engagement would weaken its political influence.
He accused the BJP of attempting to discredit the initiative through misinformation and expressed confidence that youth in the State would support the initiative.
