Tribal families in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, have intensified their protest against the 44,605 crore rupees Ken-Betwa river linking project. The agitation has progressed through various stages, including symbolic funeral pyres, covering themselves in soil, standing in the Barna River, and wearing symbolic nooses. Protesters are demanding transparent rehabilitation, fair compensation, and assurances for displaced families who face losing their homes, farms, and forests.
While the project aims to provide irrigation, drinking water, and electricity, local residents argue it threatens their survival. A local organization leader has started an indefinite hunger strike, and the Leader of Opposition also visited the protest site to meet the affected tribal farmers.
