A gruesome murder case has come to light in West Bengal's Bagdogra, where a man from Bihar was allegedly lured across the state border, hacked to death and beheaded in a conspiracy allegedly hatched by his wife and her lover over an extramarital affair. Police said they solved the case within two days of recovering the headless body and arrested five people, including the victim's wife, her alleged lover, two of his relatives and another associate. Read Full Story The victim has been identified as Imam Khua, a resident of Bihar's Kishanganj district.
According to police, he worked as a faith healer (tantric) and had travelled to West Bengal after receiving a phone call from one of the accused. The case came to light on Tuesday when tea garden workers found a blood-soaked, headless body while plucking leaves. Police rushed to the spot, sent the body for post-mortem and launched a search for the missing head, but it could not be traced initially. During the investigation, police identified the deceased and questioned his family members. Suspicion soon fell on his wife, Momina Begum, and her alleged lover, Sudip Pal.
They were arrested along with Pal's two nephews and a friend. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime, leading police to recover the victim's severed head and the sharp-edged weapon used in the murder from a secluded location around five kilometres from where the body had been found. According to police sources, Momina Begum and Sudip Pal had allegedly been in an extramarital relationship for the past seven years. Investigators believe the duo decided to eliminate Imam after he objected to their relationship.
Police said Sudip allegedly called the victim from Bihar on Monday afternoon and persuaded him to travel nearly 95 kilometres to meet him. Investigators believe Imam was murdered later that night with a sharp weapon before his head was severed in an attempt to conceal his identity. All five accused were produced before a Siliguri court on Friday. Police are continuing their investigation into the case. Ends
