Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) successfully concluded its drone pilot training programme for the first batch of police personnel on Friday (July 17, 2026). The University’s Innovation Incubation Centre (IIC), in collaboration with Pune-based PBC AeroTech Private Limited, has been running the Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) drone flying programme for 20 personnel from the Tirupati district police. The 12-day programme, including a dedicated five-day RPTO syllabus approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), was meticulously designed to equip police officers with both theoretical knowledge and practical flight capabilities.
The 14 hours of classroom training covered the Drone Rules 2021, principles of flight, aerodynamics, ATC procedures, meteorology, and risk assessment. This is in addition to three hours of simulator sessions, lab practices, drone assembly, hands-on dual flying, and solo flight maneuvers. At the valedictory ceremony held at the campus on Friday, Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu distributed the certificates, along with SVU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tata Narasinga Rao, Rector Prof. Ch.
Appa Rao and Registrar Prof. M. Bhupathi Naidu. Subbarayudu acknowledged that the training would enhance the department’s capabilities on law enforcement, surveillance, and public safety fronts. RUSA IIC Chief Executive Officer Vamsi Krishna Rayala, RUSA Phase II coordinators Prof. K. Sucharitha and Prof. M. Balaji, who were responsible for funding the project under the heads of innovation and entrepreneurship, also took part along with Additional Superintendent of Police M.
