In a move aimed at strengthening passenger safety and protecting railway assets, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Bengaluru Division, has introduced drone surveillance for real-time monitoring at railway stations and other vulnerable locations. Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Bengaluru Division, inaugurated the Drone Surveillance System at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station on Friday.
The DRM assessed the drone’s operational capabilities, including the quality of aerial footage, surveillance features, and operational range, according to officials. The RPF personnel selected to operate the drones have completed specialised training at the Karnataka State Police Remote Pilot Training Institute and are now certified drone operators.
According to the Railways, the drones will be deployed at major railway stations and other sensitive locations across the Bengaluru Division. The technology is expected
to improve crowd management during peak travel seasons and special events while enhancing surveillance of railway premises through real-time aerial monitoring, the officials said.
