The Democratic Alliance is preparing to introduce the delimitation bill in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. While the alliance has an effective strength of 319 members, it remains 41 votes short of the required majority to pass the constitutional amendment. Southern states continue to oppose the delimitation exercise, arguing that states which successfully controlled population growth should not lose political representation.

Meanwhile, some regional parties in the South are expected to support the legislation if certain seat-sharing conditions are met.
