Three newly appointed Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) of the Telangana Transport Department completed a two-month induction training programme at the RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy on Friday, with the academy’s Director Abhilash Bisht calling for greater use of technology, stronger enforcement and public awareness to improve road safety. Addressing the valedictory ceremony, Bisht said reducing road accidents requires a concerted focus on technology-based enforcement, effective implementation of laws and sustained public awareness. She stressed that officers in uniformed services must carry out their responsibilities with a sound understanding of the Motor Vehicles Act, legal procedures and road safety regulations.
Highlighting the scale of the challenge, she said one person dies in a road accident every three minutes in the country and noted that while most crashes are unintentional, many can be prevented through rigorous vehicle inspections, proper issuance of fitness certificates and stricter standards for granting driving licences. She said that the Transport Department, working alongside the police, has a vital role in reducing accidents and urged the officers to focus on the three pillars of road safety - education, engineering and enforcement - while making greater use of technology.
The training programme, held from May 18 to July 17, concluded with the presentation of certificates to D. Jagadeesh, P. Bhushi Reddy and Chai Sai Charan, who successfully completed the induction course. Telangana Transport Department Additional Commissioner C. Ramesh attended the event as the guest of honour. Ramesh said similar training imparted earlier to Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors had improved field-level coordination with the police. He added that the induction programme had equipped the three RTOs with a comprehensive understanding of the Motor Vehicles Act, legal provisions and enforcement procedures.
Senior officials of the Police Academy and the Transport Department were also present at the ceremony.
