A consumer court in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has ruled in favour of a car owner, ordering a dealer to provide a new E20-compatible vehicle or a full refund along with one lakh rupees as compensation for mental harassment. The landmark ruling, one of the first linked to the E20 fuel rollout, found the dealer liable as the buyer was not made aware that the vehicle was incompatible with the E20 petrol blend.
Maruti Suzuki has contested the order, announcing it will challenge the verdict before a higher forum. The company maintains that the Grand Vitara was fully E20 compatible and that the engine damage was caused by fuel contamination. The case raises broader questions about India's readiness for ethanol-blended fuels.
