As the 2027 Census process have commenced in Tamil Nadu on Friday (July 17, 2026), Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay have appealed to the people in the State to participate in self-enumeration exercise. In a statement, Mr. Arlekar requested the public to register themselves in the self-enumeration phase, which will be conducted in the first stage of the two-phase population Census in Tamil Nadu. “The Census in Tamil Nadu will be conducted in two phases.
The Self-Enumeration phase will be held from 17 July 2026 to 31 July 2026, followed by the House Listing Operations from 1 August 2026 to 30 August 2026. For the first time in the history of the Indian Census, citizens have been provided with the facility of Self-Enumeration through a secure online portal and mobile application, enabling households to conveniently furnish their Census information online. All the people of Tamil Nadu make full use of this facility and complete their Self-Enumeration during the notified period,” he said in the statement.
He also urged every household to furnish complete and accurate information and extend full cooperation to the Census authorities for the successful conduct of Census 2027. CM Vijay completes his self-enumeration Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mr. Vijay officially completed his self-enumeration process for the Census 2027 on Friday and appealed to the public to actively participate in the initiative. Taking to his social media accounts, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of the exercise, stating, “This is not just a mere headcount; the data you provide forms the very foundation for all public welfare schemes.
Therefore, I urge every family to ensure they provide accurate details. The self-enumeration can be easily completed online—I have already registered mine. Your personal information will be kept strictly confidential.”
