New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has reiterated his refusal to accept a pay raise after the City Council voted 42-6 to approve an 18% salary increase for the city's elected officials — the first such raise in a decade. The legislation raises council members' salaries from $148,500 to $175,500, while the mayor's annual pay jumps to $305,800.
Despite the increase, Mamdani said at a press conference on Thursday that he would not be taking the additional compensation — repeating an earlier pledge and saying no New Yorker had ever approached him to say the mayor was not paid enough.
