Near a petrol pump at Jhonowal, an SUV allegedly intercepted and rammed their motorcycle. Police said Rajan Singh and Simranjit Singh, along with four unidentified men, got out of the vehicle, assaulted Manjeet and forcibly took him away in the SUV before fleeing towards Binewal village.
Station House Officer of Garhshankar Police Station, Inspector Gagandeep Singh, said a preliminary investigation suggested that old enmity between the accused and the deceased was the possible motive behind the murder. Police have registered a case against Rajan Singh alias Raja of Achalpur village, Simranjit Singh alias Fauji of Bhawanipur village, and four unidentified accomplices under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Police said the SUV's registration plate broke off and fell at the spot during the incident.
