Government sources state they are confident of securing support for the delimitation and women's reservation bills ahead of the upcoming parliament session. Except for the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, almost all political parties are expected to extend their support. Passing the constitutional amendment requires a special two-thirds majority in both houses.
With the current Lok Sabha strength reduced to 540, the required majority is 360 votes, and sources claim the government has already secured the support of over 350 MPs. Although the delimitation bill is not currently on the official agenda, the government indicates it may gather the necessary consensus soon.
