Part of the Prevention of Insults to Honour Amendment Bill 2026, this legislation aims to grant the national song, Vande Mataram, the same legal and statutory protections as the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana.
Currently, under the Prevention of Insults to Honour Act, individuals are expected to stand, sing, and respect the national anthem, with insults being prohibited. The new bill seeks to extend these identical legal protections to Vande Mataram, which previously lacked such statutory safeguards, ensuring the national song receives equal respect.
