The controversy centres around Maulana Jarjis Ansari, whose video from a religious gathering in Jharkhand recently went viral on social media. In the speech, Ansari allegedly claimed that Lord Krishna was a Muslim and offered namaz five times a day. He sought to support his argument by referring to Chapter 6, Verse 10 of the Bhagavad Gita, asserting that Hindu scriptures also reflected Islamic teachings.
However, scholars and critics pointed out that the verse does not support such an interpretation. As the video spread online, Hindu organisations accused the cleric of deliberately hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. A complaint was subsequently lodged in Lucknow, following which police registered an FIR under provisions relating to promoting enmity and outraging religious feelings. Police officials have said the matter is under investigation and legal action will be taken based on evidence.
