Apple is gearing up to launch a range of new products this September, and the iPad lineup could be part of that wave. A report suggests that Apple is working on a refreshed iPad mini that would be equipped with an OLED display, marking one of the biggest upgrades to the compact tablet in years. The device is expected to debut as early as this fall, with availability expected by October. Read Full Story According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the new iPad mini, internally codenamed J510, would be the first major upgrade to the tablet since 2021 and the first non-Pro iPad to feature an OLED screen.
Apple has so far reserved OLED technology for its iPhone lineup and the iPad Pro, which got the upgrade in 2024. Bringing it to the iPad mini would be a significant step, though the tablet is expected to retain its compact form factor, with the display upgrade being the primary focus. What else is Apple working on Beyond the iPad mini, Apple is also said to be refreshing the entry-level iPad, codenamed J581. Unlike the mini, this one is expected to be a more modest update, with a new processor but no major design changes. It is reportedly set to launch in the first quarter of 2027.
The iPad Air is also in line for a refresh, with 11-inch and 13-inch models, codenamed J807 and J837 respectively, reportedly set to arrive in the spring alongside refreshed iPad Pro models. Gurman notes that Apple is planning to eventually bring OLED technology to the iPad Air as well, though the standard iPad is expected to stick with its existing LCD screen to keep costs in check. Earlier, Gurman suggested that the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning to reveal two new Apple Pencil models that could be rolled out alongside these tablet updates. Driven by tightening European regulations, Apple is reportedly redesigning its stylus lineup.
The new iterations of the entry-level USB-C Pencil and the flagship Apple Pencil Pro are currently in the works. Both models are expected to feature updated battery architectures designed to comply with EU mandates emphasising battery replaceability, a major shift for products that have traditionally been sealed shut. While specifics are still under wraps, these upcoming models will mark the first hardware refreshes since the USB-C model's release in November 2023 and the Apple Pencil Pro's debut in May 2024.
