The fallout from the Baloch Liberation Army’s (BLA) deadly ambush on a Pakistan military convoy in Balochistan’s Mastung district continued well into Friday, with emergency measures put in place, key highways witnessing massive traffic snarls and security forces launching a large-scale rescue operation backed by helicopter gunships. The attack, which the BLA claimed left more than 45 Pakistani soldiers dead, has already emerged as one of the deadliest strikes on the country’s security forces this year. While Pakistan has not officially confirmed the casualty figures, the scale of the emergency response has underscored the severity of the assault. Emergency Declared At Hospitals As reports of casualties poured in, the Balochistan government declared an emergency at Civil Hospital Quetta, Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital, and several nearby medical facilities to treat the injured.
Authorities mobilised emergency medical teams as ambulances ferried casualties from the attack site in Mastung, where the convoy had come under a coordinated assault. The exact number of soldiers being treated remains unclear, and Pakistani authorities are yet to issue an official casualty update. Gunship Helicopters, Reinforcements Deployed Security sources said the Pakistan military deployed gunship helicopters and heavy reinforcements to Mastung after the ambush to evacuate trapped personnel and secure the area. According to reports, clashes between security forces and BLA fighters continued in Khadkocha till late at night as troops attempted to regain control following the initial assault. The BLA, in a statement issued by spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, claimed its elite “Fatah Squad" not only ambushed the military convoy but also targeted reinforcements rushing to the area. The outfit said it would release a detailed operational report on the attack. Highway Blocked, Traffic Comes To A Standstill The attack also disrupted traffic on the Quetta-Karachi Highway (N-25), one of Pakistan’s most important road links connecting Balochistan with Sindh. Security forces reportedly sealed stretches of the highway as rescue operations and combing exercises continued, resulting in long traffic jams and stranding hundreds of commuters.
