The controversy also prompted strong reactions from Hindu seers. Lord Krishna Namaz Row: A controversy erupted after a controversial video of cleric Maulana Jarjis Ansari allegedly claiming that Lord Krishna was a Muslim and offered namaz five times a day went viral on social media, triggering protests by several Hindu organisations and leading to the registration of an FIR against him in Lucknow. The video, reportedly from a religious address delivered in Jharkhand on June 23, has resurfaced amid the ongoing Krishna Janmabhoomi- Eidgah Masjid dispute, drawing sharp criticism from Hindu seers and right-wing groups, who alleged that the remarks hurt religious sentiments and demanded the cleric’s arrest. As per the video shared on social media platforms, Ansari was seen citing Chapter 6, Verse 10 of the Bhagavad Gita and claimed that Lord Krishna himself offered prayers five times a day. He further asserted that if Hindus studied their scriptures closely, they would “start loving Islam", claiming that Islam was a universal faith preached not only by Prophet Muhammad but also by Lord Ram and Lord Krishna.
However, the accepted translation of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6, Verse 10 speaks about meditation, self-discipline and detachment from worldly desires. The verse makes no reference to Islam, namaz or offering prayers five times a day. Police have registered an FIR against Ansari and said the matter is under investigation.
