A woman delivered her baby while standing beside a hospital bed at the Government Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Centre in Telangana's Bhadradri Kothagudem district after medical staff allegedly failed to respond in time. The newborn reportedly suffered a head injury after falling to the floor, while the mother experienced heavy bleeding, prompting allegations of negligence against the hospital. The incident took place at the government-run MCH Centre in Kothagudem, where the woman, identified as Bhavani from Dammapet, had been admitted for the delivery of her first child.
Read Full Story According to family members and eyewitnesses, Bhavani repeatedly experienced severe labour pain but did not receive timely assistance from doctors or nursing staff. Unable to bear the pain any longer, she reportedly stood beside her hospital bed and delivered the baby before any medical personnel reached her. The family alleged that the newborn fell to the floor immediately after birth, sustaining a head injury. They claimed nurses arrived only several minutes later, while the mother suffered excessive bleeding, triggering panic among other pregnant women in the ward.
Attendants and patients present at the hospital also accused the staff of failing to adequately monitor expectant mothers and demanded action against those responsible for the alleged lapse. The incident sparked protests by the woman's relatives at the hospital, following which police reached the facility to pacify the situation. Officers spoke to both the family members and hospital authorities. Hospital authorities, however, denied the allegations of negligence. According to the doctors, the woman did not inform the medical staff that she had entered active labour.
They said doctors and nurses would have immediately attended to her and shifted her for delivery had they been alerted in time. The hospital said both the mother and the newborn were provided medical treatment after the incident and that the baby's condition was being closely monitored. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The allegations of medical negligence remain under inquiry. Ends
