Rapid Read Representative image The Delhi BJP has expelled its leader Vikas Garg from the party following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the money-laundering probe linked to the Mahadev online betting app, sources said on Thursday. Garg, chairman of the Ebix Group, was arrested by the ED on Tuesday in the multi-crore case. “Garg has been removed from the post of economic cell convenor of Delhi BJP. His primary membership of the party stands cancelled," a senior party functionary said.
Appointed as the convenor of the Delhi BJP’s economic cell in 2024, Garg is the son of senior BJP leader and three-time former MLA Nand Kishor Garg. According to the ED, the Mahadev betting app investigation involves high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh, with alleged proceeds of crime estimated at around Rs 6,000 crore. The agency said Garg is the 14th person arrested in the case. It has so far named 74 entities as accused across five chargesheets filed before a special PMLA court in Raipur. On Wednesday, a special PMLA court in Chhattisgarh sent Garg to ED custody for 10 days. The ED has alleged that Garg acquired a 64 per cent stake in EbixCash through Eraaya Lifespaces by “utilising" funds purportedly generated through illegal betting activities.
