Ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, the ruling government is preparing to reintroduce the Delimitation Bill and the Women's Reservation Bill. After facing a legislative defeat in April, the ruling party has launched a strategy to secure the 360 votes required for a constitutional amendment. The ruling coalition currently holds 293 seats and is relying on support from breakaway factions and regional parties to cross the two-thirds majority mark.
During a television debate, representatives from the ruling party expressed confidence in securing the numbers, arguing that the delimitation process will proportionally increase representation for southern states. Conversely, opposition representatives questioned the government's ability to build a consensus, expressing doubts that regional parties from the south would support the legislation. Some opposition factions maintained that their stance remains undecided pending the release of the official bill draft.
The political discourse highlights the ongoing struggle for parliamentary dominance as both sides prepare their floor strategies ahead of the crucial legislative session.
