Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant has raised a major constitutional question over the recognition of six MPs who joined the Shinde group. According to Sawant, the anti-defection law allows only an entire party to merge with another party โ individual members cannot form a separate group and merge on their own. He questioned where in the law it is permitted for such a group to be recognized by the Lok Sabha Speaker.
Shiv Sena (UBT) has formally requested the Speaker not to recognize these MPs, with Sawant expressing hope that the Constitution will be respected in this decision.
