Karnataka will add four more modernised railway stations as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the redeveloped railway stations at Alnavar, Badami, Bantwal and Koppal on July 17, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). The four stations have been redeveloped at a total cost of over ₹79 crore. Alnavar has been upgraded at a cost of ₹17.2 crore, Badami at ₹15.10 crore, Bantwal at ₹26.18 crore and Koppal at ₹21.14 crore, according to South Western Railway (SWR).
The inauguration is part of a nation-wide programme in which the Prime Minister will dedicate 75 redeveloped railway stations across the country. Earlier, foundation stones were laid for the redevelopment of more than 1,000 railway stations under the ABSS. In Karnataka, Gadag, Dharwad, Gokak Road, Munirabad and Bagalkot stations were inaugurated in May 2025.
The upgraded stations feature modern station buildings inspired by regional architecture, improved passenger circulation areas, air-conditioned waiting halls, dedicated ladies’ waiting rooms with baby-feeding spaces, better drinking water facilities and enhanced parking arrangements. To improve accessibility, the stations include Divyangjan-friendly
facilities such as ramps, accessible booking counters, guidance pathways and accessible restrooms. New platform shelters, passenger lifts at all four stations, 12-metre-wide foot overbridges at Alnavar, Badami and Koppal, and two escalators at Koppal have also been provided, a release stated.
