A dispute has emerged in West Bengal over a mosque located inside the Kolkata airport premises. The state government has restricted access to the site, citing security concerns and hindrances to airport expansion plans. Consequently, prayers at the mosque have been halted since last week, with authorities proposing its relocation to another area. In response, an Islamic cleric announced plans to visit the airport with local residents to offer prayers, warning of a peaceful protest if prevented.
The Bengal BJP president addressed the issue, asserting that the government will take necessary measures to ensure passengers do not face hardships, adding that similar actions would be taken if a temple obstructed development. The Chief Minister emphasized that while religious practices are not being stopped, national security and passenger safety remain the top priorities. The government maintains that no compromises will be made regarding the modernization and security of the international airport.
