MCC continues drive against footpath encroachments

The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Thursday continued its anti-encroachment drive by clearing footpaths along a stretch of M.G. Road near JSS Hospital, reclaiming space meant for pedestrians. The operation, carried out in the morning, covered the stretch from Agrahara Circle to the railway overbridge near the vegetable market, where footpaths had been encroached upon, forcing pedestrians to walk on the busy road.
MCC personnel removed illegal structures and cleared debris from the footpaths to restore safe and unobstructed access for pedestrians. The drive was part of its ongoing efforts to improve road safety and ensure smooth movement for both pedestrians and motorists. However, some traders and occupants affected by the drive alleged that they had not been served prior notice before the eviction, claiming that the sudden action resulted in financial losses.
Residents of the locality welcomed the corporation’s initiative, saying the encroachments had made the stretch unsafe for pedestrians. At the same time, they urged the
MCC to carry out such drives uniformly across the city, stressing that enforcement should be impartial and sustained to prevent fresh encroachments on reclaimed footpaths.
