South India is witnessing unusually high temperatures and an extremely weak southwest monsoon. Bengaluru recorded a temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius, breaking a July heat record set in 1926. Across Karnataka, temperatures are three to five degrees above normal, threatening a drought situation.
Tamil Nadu is also seeing intense heat, with Madurai touching 42.5 degrees Celsius and Chennai recording nearly 40 degrees. Meanwhile, Kerala is facing a monsoon rainfall deficit of over 30%, with many districts receiving much less rainfall than usual.
