The Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM), Hyderabad has launched a 10-day Canteen Chef Training Programme for transgender persons. The programme is aimed at equipping participants with culinary and employability skills to improve their livelihood opportunities. The programme began on Wednesday (July 15) and will continue till July 24 and is by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens and Transgender Persons.
Inaugurating the programme, NITHM Director Venkata Ramana said hospitality-based skill training could help transgender persons build sustainable careers and improve their livelihoods. He urged the participants to make the best use of the training and expressed confidence that the programme would enhance their skills while opening up avenues for employment and self-employment.
Morning practical classes, conducted by guest chefs, cover egg preparations, salads, sandwiches, beverages, rice varieties, snacks, noodles, gravies, rotis, tiffins, biryani, sweets, traditional thali preparation and fish
dishes. Afternoon sessions focus on personality development, communication and soft skills, customer service, food safety and hygiene, financial literacy, technology for business, social media marketing and emergency response.
