Researchers at IIT Kanpur have conducted advanced engine tests on E20 petrol to simulate real-world driving conditions. Amid a nationwide controversy regarding E20 petrol usage, the extensive testing monitored fuel efficiency, engine performance, corrosion, carbon deposits, and wear and tear. The study found no evidence that E20 petrol damages engines, causes abnormal performance, or impacts fuel efficiency, even in older cars.
Using a BS6 engine and a dynamometer to simulate various loads and RPMs, researchers observed that average fuel consumption readings remained identical to those of normal petrol. The findings counter real-world concerns on the ground regarding potential engine damage from E20 fuel.
