Andhra Pradesh’s Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister P. Narayana and Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu, and TDP State president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao on Thursday reviewed the progress of key construction works in the Amaravati capital region, including the MLA and MLC residential towers and the Heads of Departments (HoD) towers. Inspecting the sites, Mr. Narayana said the construction of the residential towers for the legislators was nearing completion and would soon be handed over to the General Administration Department (GAD).
He briefed the visiting leaders on the engineering standards and safety measures adopted during construction. Srinivasa Rao said the completion of the residential complexes with modern amenities marked an important milestone in the development of Amaravati. He expressed confidence that the MLAs and MLCs would soon begin occupying the new accommodation, and thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and the BJP leadership for supporting the capital city’s development.
Addressing the media, Mr. Ramanaidu criticised YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for his changing stance on the State capital. He said Amaravati would emerge as Andhra Pradesh’s economic growth engine, comparable to the role played by Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad in their respective States. The Minister said the Secretariat complex would comprise five iconic towers designed to accommodate about 16,000 employees, including officials from all the departments.
He added that the 204-metre Secretariat tower would be among the world’s tallest buildings, while the HoD towers and Secretariat complex represented a first-of-its-kind integrated administrative campus in India. He also said that over 99.5% of the land required for the Seed Access Road had already been pooled from farmers.
