BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra and party MP Basavaraj Bommai led a huge protest march in Haveri on Thursday condemning the deterioration of law and order situation across the State, particularly in the district, and accused the State government of pursuing appeasement politics. Participating in the protest march, which was taken out from Purasiddheshwar Temple to Mahatma Gandhi Circle in Haveri, and then addressing the protest meeting, the leaders said that it is because of the appeasement politics of the State government that Hindus are being subjected to a series of crimes, including brutal attacks and murders.
Hundreds of BJP workers and leaders took part in the protest march. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Vijayendra said that the minority appeasement policy followed by the present disposition has turned the State into a haven for communal forces as such groups are assured of protection from the Congress. Mentioning the recent group clash in Naregal over bursting of crackers during Kara Hunnime bull procession in which six were injured and the death of Shivaji Rao in an assault in Rattihalli, Mr. Vijayendra said that instead of acting against the guilty, the police are filing cases against victims.
No law and order Bommai lambasted the State government saying that law and order has completely collapsed in the district and criminals show no fear of law. Referring to the various instances of crime in Shiggaon, Hangal, Naregal, Ranebennur and other places in the district, Mr. Bommai said that the behaviour of criminals in the aftermath of their crime clearly indicates that there is no fear of law among them. Repeated reminders to the district officials and those running the government on the deteriorating law and order situation have so far not made any impact, he said.
Bommai said that corruption among the local police is the primary reason for the deteriorating law and order situation in the district. Accusing the police of misusing their authority succumbing to political pressure, he warned that if the same situation continues, his party will be forced to intensify the agitation in the coming days.
