A consumer court in Raipur has delivered a landmark judgment against Maruti regarding an E20 petrol compatibility issue. The consumer purchased a vehicle in 2024 with a guarantee valid until 2029, but the car suffered recurring damages within five months and before completing 25,000 kilometres. The manufacturer falsely claimed the car was manufactured in December 2024, whereas it was actually an older vehicle from January 2024.
Despite repeated visits to authorised workshops, the problem persisted, and the consumer faced harassment from the showroom and manufacturer. The lawyer initially claimed a compensation of 50 lakh rupees, but the court awarded 20 lakh rupees, covering the initial purchase price and registration. The court clarified that this verdict does not declare E20 blended petrol unsafe for all vehicles in a blanket manner.
