The Rampur Development Authority has ordered the demolition of 38 unauthorised structures at Jauhar University, founded by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. The civic body stated that these buildings were constructed without approved building plans and has given the university 15 days to remove them. Additionally, the Public Works Department has declared the road inside the campus a public road and installed a signboard at the main gate.
The university has defended the construction, claiming the buildings were built before the area came under the civic body's jurisdiction and that the district Panchayat had approval powers at the time. The institution has faced legal battles over land encroachment and lease violations, with the Uttar Pradesh government reclaiming large portions of the property.
