Kerala Transport Minister CP John has announced the massive success of the Priyadarshini programme, the state's free bus travel scheme for women. In just one month, 3.81 crore free journeys were delivered, with a total benefit of Rs 81.29 crore, and 12.71 lakh women traveling daily under the scheme. The percentage of women passengers in ordinary bus services has risen from around 50% to 66%.
The scheme has also helped reduce pollution, with KSRTC's carbon dioxide emissions dropping from 504 kg to 404 kg per thousand passengers, making Kerala's public transport greener and eligible for carbon credits. The minister highlighted that the initiative has positively impacted more than 5 lakh families, especially women-led households. Watch the full report for all the details.
