The Kerala unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has chartered an entire train from the Indian Railways to travel to New Delhi for a protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government. CPI State secretary Binoy Viswam told The Hindu that it will be the first time that a political party from Kerala will be chartering an entire train.
“We have chartered a train with 20 compartments, each accommodating 72 comrades. In the past, political parties have hired a few compartments to travel long distances for events or protests, but this is the first time that a special train is being chartered. We were forced by circumstances because tickets were not available on trains for the dates on which we were planning to travel,” he said.
The CPI’s national protest with the slogan ‘Delhi Chalo, Badlaav Zaroori Hai’ (Change is Inevitable), against the policies of the Union government, will witness the participation of a large number of cadres from across the country. The special train will depart from Kochuveli on August 29 and reach Delhi on August 31.
The return journey on the same train will begin on September 2.
