Health authorities in Guntur district have stepped up precautionary measures after a COVID-19 positive case was reported at the AIIMS Mangalagiri, which is in Amaravati, the capital region of Andhra Pradesh. District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) K. Vijayalakshmi said on Thursday (July 16, 2026) that the district administration was carrying out all necessary preventive and containment measures to monitor the situation.
She was responding to reports of a COVID-19 case with symptoms being detected at the AIIMS Mangalagiri. The DMHO said Guntur District Collector C.M. Sai Kanth Varma had given clear instructions to the health department to remain vigilant and ensure that all required public health protocols were followed.
Surveillance, monitoring and other preventive measures had been intensified to prevent any potential spread of the infection, she added. Vijayalakshmi said positive samples were being
sent to the Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, for genome sequencing to identify the circulating variant and support further epidemiological assessment.
