India fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has received an official warning from the ICC after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct during the opening ODI against England in Birmingham. Read Full Story Along with the warning, Brar has also been given one demerit point, marking the first entry on his disciplinary record within the past 24 months.
The offence occurred in the eighth over of England's innings. After collecting the ball while fielding, Brar threw it towards the striker in a manner the match officials deemed inappropriate and potentially dangerous. The England opener grinned at the Indian pacer and then hit him for a six, much to the appreciation of the crowd. However, in the 13th over Brar ended up having the last laugh as he dismissed Duckett and sent him back to the pavilion for 43. Since he admitted the offence, the matter was resolved without the need for a formal disciplinary hearing. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, with support from third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Russell Warren. Under the ICC's disciplinary regulations, a Level 1 offence can result in anything from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player's match fee, along with the addition of one or two demerit points. Despite the disciplinary action, Brar enjoyed a productive outing with the ball, claiming two wickets as India defeated England by six wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
