The accused allegedly fled with the firearm after the incident, and police have launched a search to trace him. The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old Hariom Chaudhary, a resident of Budana village in Modinagar. According to investigators, the incident took place after the accused, Nikhil, returned home late at night under the influence of alcohol. A heated exchange with his father reportedly escalated into violence. Officials said the argument was linked to the family’s property.
Nikhil had already been given 25 bighas of land and several shops by his father. However, he was allegedly insisting that the remaining property also be transferred to him. Hariom is said to have refused, believing his son would misuse the assets because of his drinking habit. Hariom Chaudhary was known as a prosperous farmer in the area. Police said he owned around 75 bighas of agricultural land in Modinagar along with a commercial market on the Delhi-Meerut Road. The value of his assets is estimated at nearly Rs 150 crore. According to the police cited by media outlets, Hariom had finished dinner with his wife, Anita, and younger son, Neeshu, before Nikhil arrived home. When his father questioned him over his drinking, an argument reportedly broke out. During the confrontation, Nikhil allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired at his father. Investigators said the first shot struck Hariom in the face, causing him to fall.
He was then allegedly shot several more times in the face, chest and abdomen. Police said the body had multiple bullet injuries, with four to six entry wounds found during the preliminary examination. The accused escaped from the house immediately after the shooting, taking the weapon with him. Four police teams have been formed to locate and arrest him. The investigation has also brought to light an earlier case involving the accused. Police said Nikhil had allegedly fired at his younger brother, Neeshu, during a family dispute in 2018. Officers are now examining that case as part of the ongoing investigation.
