The Punjab visit will be his second to Jalandhar this year after his February trip to Dera Sachkhand Ballan and comes as the BJP gears up to contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections independently. A key highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of 75 redeveloped railway stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Redeveloped at a cost of around Rs 1,570 crore, the stations have been modernised with upgraded passenger amenities while incorporating local heritage, culture and architectural elements under the theme of "Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi".
The four stations in Punjab redeveloped under the scheme are Jalandhar Cantonment, S A S Nagar (Mohali), Sri Muktsar Sahib and Sri Anandpur Sahib. PM Modi will also inaugurate the Daulatpur Chowk-Kartoli rail line, built at a cost of about Rs 830 crore as part of the Nangal Dam-Talwara-Mukerian New Rail Line Project. Officials said the new line will strengthen rail connectivity between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, benefiting Hoshiarpur and Una districts while improving access to pilgrimage destinations such as Sri Anandpur Sahib and Maa Chintpurni Temple. It is also expected to provide residents of remote areas with faster, safer and more reliable transport. The Prime Minister will flag off the Kartoli-Ambala train service, aimed at improving rail connectivity across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. He will also inaugurate the Amritsar (Chheharta)-Varanasi train service, providing a direct rail link between the two cities. On the road infrastructure front, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of Highway projects worth more than Rs 3,070 crore.
These include the inauguration of the 30.9-km Package-6 of the four-lane greenfield Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, which officials said will ease traffic movement, particularly for heavy vehicles, while reducing travel time, fuel consumption and vehicle operating costs. He will also lay the foundation stone for the 25.2-km si lane Southern Ludhiana Bypass, a greenfield corridor expected to reduce travel time and distance between Ludhiana and Bathinda and improve connectivity to key industrial and commercial hubs. Ahead of the visit, security has been tightened across Jalandhar. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav inspected preparations at Jalandhar Cantonment railway station on Thursday, while the district administration declared the city a no-flying zone during the Prime Minister's visit. Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon, who reviewed arrangements on Wednesday, said the projects reflected the Prime Minister's vision of transforming India's infrastructure, adding that the redevelopment of railway stations would turn them into world-class transport hubs while preserving the state's cultural identity. In Chandigarh, PM Modi will inaugurate the Advanced Mother and Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
