BJP MLC seeks ₹51.5 cr Khelo India sports infra projects for north Telangana’s Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad, and Karimnagar

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC M. Komaraiah has urged Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya to sanction ₹51.50 crore worth of sports infrastructure projects under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme for the combined districts of Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad, and Karimnagar. Among the projects proposed is a Khelo India Tribal Sports and Hockey Centre of Excellence in Adilabad at an estimated cost of ₹15 crore.
The facility would include a synthetic hockey turf, hostel accommodation and training infrastructure for athletes. For Nizamabad, the MLC sought approval for a Khelo India Kabaddi, Wrestling and Indigenous Sports Academy at a cost of ₹14 crore, including a multipurpose indoor hall for training and competitions. In Medak, he proposed a Khelo India Cycling and Athletics High-Performance Centre costing ₹12.50 crore.
The project envisages a four-lane synthetic athletics track, a cycling track and a sports science unit to support athlete development. Another proposal is the establishment of a Khelo India Athletics Centre of Excellence at Satavahana University in Karimnagar at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore. The centre would include a sports science facility and a hostel for athletes. “We proposed these projects keeping in mind the sporting potential, geographical conditions and local sports traditions of the respective regions,” said Mr. Komaraiah.
He also appealed to the State government and the departments concerned to extend cooperation in providing the required land and facilitating necessary clearances for the timely implementation of the projects, according a press release issued on Wednesday.
