Rapid Read 36-year-old US national Jordan Brown with Uttar Pradesh Police. (Source: X) The investigation into American national Jordan Brown has widened after security agencies reconstructed what they describe as an unusual cross-country trail spanning more than three months, with his movements across multiple Indian states now under close scrutiny. Sources told CNN-News18 that Brown’s travel pattern has raised fresh questions because of its rapid, multi-state crisscrossing through southern, central and northern India, culminating in his arrest while allegedly attempting to enter Nepal through an unauthorised route near the sensitive Sonauli border in Uttar Pradesh. According to sources, Brown stayed in Canacona, Goa, from March 28 to May 7 before travelling to Mysuru, Karnataka, where he remained between May 14 and July 7. He then moved to Bengaluru on July 8, followed by Hyderabad on July 9. On July 10 alone, investigators say he travelled through Bandol in Madhya Pradesh, Seoni and later reached Prayagraj (Allahabad) in Uttar Pradesh. His last known location before being intercepted was Bhagwanpur near the Sonauli border on July 11.
Senior intelligence sources said the compressed itinerary is “unusual" and unlike that of a routine foreign tourist. They pointed out that Brown travelled not only to major urban centres but also to smaller towns in quick succession, prompting agencies to examine the purpose behind his movements. The latest findings add to the concerns first flagged after Brown’s arrest. As previously reported by News18, central agencies joined the investigation after local police highlighted several inconsistencies in his statements and travel history. CNN-News18 has now accessed details from Brown’s interrogation report, in which Maharajganj Police recorded multiple red flags. According to the report, Brown allegedly displayed erratic behaviour that investigators believe could indicate severe combat trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Police are also examining whether prolonged substance abuse could explain some of his actions. Investigators remain unconvinced by Brown’s explanation regarding the loss of his passport and other travel documents. They are verifying whether the missing documentation was accidental or a deliberate attempt to conceal his identity and legal status. Police are also probing his contradictory statements about his identity, travel history and reasons for visiting India. Officials are simultaneously exploring multiple possibilities. These include whether Brown is a traumatised former serviceman struggling with psychological issues and drug dependence, or whether there is another explanation for his conduct.
