Activist Sonam Wangchuk has lost over 9 kg weight on the nineteenth day of his fast, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) said in a statement, adding that he has weakened significantly on Thursday (July 16, 2026) morning. “According to today’s medical assessment, Sonam Wangchuk’s weight has further declined to 56.90 kg, marking a loss of over 9 kg since the beginning of his indefinite hunger strike,” the CJP said in its statement.
“His blood pressure was recorded at 101/65 mmHg, pulse at 72 beats per minute, oxygen saturation at 98%, and random blood sugar at 89 mg/dL,” it added. Wangchuk remains under constant medical supervision, the CJP said, adding that he is still “mentally alert”, even as he has weakened significantly.
“CJP once again appeals to the Government of India to immediately engage with the protesters, address the long-pending demands for examination reforms, and respond to the growing concerns of students across the country,” the party
said. “The party also [calls again] for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and urges citizens to join the peaceful Parliament March on 20th July in support of students and education reforms,” it added.
