EPFO's New System Speeds Up Interest Credits; 83% Claims Now Auto-Processed, Same-Day Settlements Possible Published By, Last Updated: July 16, 2026, 11:56 IST EPFO has upgraded its CITES platform, enabling 83% of claims to be auto-processed, same-day settlement for eligible withdrawals, and faster credit of 8.25% interest. According to a report by The Times of India, the latest version of the Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES), which went live on July 3, along with simplified rules, has increased the share of auto-processed claims from 70 per cent to 83 per cent. The upgraded system has also helped EPFO clear pending claims faster and credit annual interest to nearly 34 crore subscribers. CLAIMS CAN NOW BE PROCESSED THE SAME DAY As per the report, EPFO subscribers filing eligible claims, such as partial withdrawals for education or medical treatment, may now receive settlements on the same day if applications are submitted in the morning. A senior official was quoted as saying that subscriber services are becoming much smoother under the revamped system. “Member services have improved.
Now subscriber services are also going to be smooth. EPFO badal raha hai (EPFO is changing)," the official said. RECORD 11 LAKH CLAIMS PROCESSED IN A DAY The upgraded technology has also helped EPFO tackle the backlog created during the transition to the new centralised architecture. According to the report, EPFO processed a record 11 lakh claims worth around Rs 3,000 crore on Tuesday, clearing a major portion of pending applications. The backlog had accumulated after a temporary blackout between June 24 and July 3 while the new system was being implemented. Officials said the remaining 6-7 lakh pending claims are expected to be cleared by the end of the week. NEW CENTRALISED SYSTEM TO SPEED UP SERVICES The report said the new architecture allows service requests to be processed at the national level rather than being restricted to individual regional offices. Combined with simplified rules and a centralised database, members can now clearly see the amount they are eligible to withdraw from their provident fund accounts, making the process more transparent and efficient. The upgraded CITES 2.01 platform has also enabled EPFO to credit the approved 8.25 per cent annual interest for FY 2025-26 to nearly 34 crore members by Wednesday, substantially speeding up the annual interest credit process. Officials believe the increased automation will allow EPFO staff to focus on more complex cases, including pension settlements and legacy accounts created before the Universal Account Number (UAN) system was introduced.
