(Image: PTI) The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka has extended the timeline for conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. Under the revised schedule, the final publication of the electoral rolls has been pushed to October 19. As part of the exercise, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbukumar told reporters that 13.96 lakh voters had been identified as absentee, shifted, duplicate or dead (ASDD) during the ongoing revision. When asked about the controversy surrounding the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC), Anbukumar declined to comment, saying, “No comments." He did not elaborate further on the issue. The Election Commission has issued a revised schedule for the SIR in Karnataka, with October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. Under the new timeline, the draft electoral rolls will be published on August 17. Claims and objections can be filed until September 16, while their disposal will continue until October 15.
The final electoral rolls will be published on October 19. The announcement comes halfway through one of Karnataka’s most closely watched electoral exercises. Anbukumar said 95.58 per cent of the enumeration forms — around 5.30 crore — had already been distributed, while 2.20 crore forms, or nearly 40 per cent, had been digitised. “We have crossed 50 per cent of the duration of the process," Anbukumar said. The CEO said the exercise had so far identified 13.96 lakh ASDD voters. Their names have been shared with the Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of recognised political parties for verification. Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) have also been directed to provide Assembly constituency-wise ASDD lists to political parties. “Any errors in marking voters as absentee, shifted, duplicate or dead can still be rectified. We have requested all recognised political parties to verify the lists prepared by the Booth Level Officers," he said. The Election Commission said 13 districts had completed 100 per cent distribution of enumeration forms: Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Davangere, Haveri, Kolar, Koppal, Mandya, Raichur, Uttara Kannada, Vijayanagara, Yadgir, Kodagu and Hassan. Digitisation, however, remains uneven across the state. Chikkaballapur leads with 64 per cent, followed by Haveri at 62 per cent, Davangere at 59 per cent, Koppal at 58 per cent, Hassan at 57 per cent and Chitradurga at 56 per cent.
