The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) in Kanpur launched a special enforcement drive against momo manufacturing and vending units, shutting down three facilities over serious hygiene violations and destroying around 115 kilograms of suspected stale chutney, officials said. The action was carried out on Wednesday in Rawatpur, Saket Nagar and Maswanpur areas following directions from District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh. Food safety officials inspected Akash Momos in Keshav Nagar, Shri Balaji Momos in Rawatpur, and another unit in Saket Nagar.
Read Full Story During the inspections, officials found significant lapses in cleanliness and hygiene at all three establishments. The chutney served with the momo was allegedly stored in unhygienic and suspicious conditions. Samples of the chutney and momo were collected and sent for laboratory analysis. At Shri Balaji Momos, officials also found that the manufacturing unit did not possess the mandatory food business registration. The premises were reportedly unhygienic, and around 45 kilograms of chutney was destroyed on the spot.
Authorities directed the operator to keep the unit closed until it obtains the required registration and rectifies all deficiencies. The enforcement drive also covered momo carts in the Maswanpur area, where coloured finger chips and chutney were found to be failing hygiene standards. These food items were also destroyed at the site. Overall, approximately 115 kilograms of suspected chutney was disposed of during the operation. District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh said the administration would not tolerate any compromise on food quality or hygiene.
He said all collected samples had been sent to a laboratory for testing, and strict action would be taken against the concerned operators under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, if any violations are confirmed in the test reports. Ends
