Rapid Read (Representative image) A Delhi Traffic Police head constable was killed after a speeding car hit him while he was on duty at the Singhu border in outer north Delhi on Wednesday evening. Police arrested two men in connection with the hit-and-run within hours and seized the vehicle involved in the incident. The incident took place at around 6 pm when Head Constable Amit, posted with the Traffic Unit at Singhu border, was regulating traffic, police said.
A speeding vehicle rammed into the traffic policeman before the driver fled the spot. Amit, a resident of Sonipat in neighbouring Haryana, was immediately rushed by his colleagues to Narela’s Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital (SRHC). However, doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. Following the incident, an FIR was registered at Alipur Police Station under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have apprehended Kuldeep alias Karan and Neeraj in the case. In a statement, Delhi Police said, “It is with deep regret that Head Constable Amit, posted in the Traffic Unit at Singhu Border, has passed away in a hit-and-run incident.
He is survived by his wife and two children." Police said multiple teams were formed to investigate the case. Investigators examined CCTV footage and other technical leads to identify the vehicle involved and trace the accused. The vehicle was seized during the investigation. Officials said further investigation and legal formalities are underway. Police are continuing to examine the evidence collected during the probe as they move forward with the case.
